In an attempt to put some fire under me and complete my foyer/dining room/living room refresh, I decided to join in the One Room Challenge this time! I’ve been a big fan of Linda at Calling It Home blog’s ORC for quite some time and am so excited to be part of this with alot of other talented bloggers! If you aren’t familiar with the ORC, it’s 6 weeks of transforming a space. Some people do complete makeovers in their home, while others do a refresh of a space. This is my first ORC…
We’ve been in our home for 14 years this month and I’ve gradually been updating wall colors, lighting, fabrics, etc. Last year we had our kitchen and family room repainted and added faux beams to the ceiling throughout both spaces. I chose Benjamin Moore’s Linen White in those spaces and a few weeks ago had our 2 story foyer and upstairs hall painted the same color. The previous wall color was a medium tan color I loved called Brush Box by Duron, an older color but very cozy and warm.
Needless to say the Linen White was a drastic change and I was a little startled at first because the 2 story space gets lots of Southern exposure sun alot of the day! I am getting used to it and really starting to love the change, but want some contrast in the space with the interior doors now.
The stair railing is painted a dark brown, but I’m considering repainting it a soft black.
I have a skirted table that I’ve used for a few years now that’s a good neutral linen fabric with Greek key trim detail and last year I added the vintage Roe deer antlers a few years ago and found the large gold mirror at a Goodwill in Buckhead, GA many years ago. I think those things will all stay the same. The Persian rug was a gift from my husband to me last Christmas, so that’s a recent update, too.
Moving into the living room…For now, this space is staying chocolate brown. I love the cozy feel it adds to this space and I don’t think I’m ready to change it as of now. ( Famous last words…) I am in the process of reworking a gallery wall in our dining room, so I have a few larger pieces of black and white more modern art I want to add in place of this too small landscape painting ( why do builders put light switches in the middle of walls?! :/ ) Really would like to have this light switch moved so my new artwork is centered nicely in this space, but we’ll see…Linen curtains may change, too.
These white French armchairs received a grayed dry brush technique last year to update them, but I have yet to commit to a fabric to cover them in. Cheetah pillows in a lighter tone have been ordered for both chairs that flank a computer armoire. That mirror has always been too small for that space so I might try to find a larger one or add a few under it. There are 2 other mirrors stacked vertically on the other side of the armoire that I forgot to show a picture of. ( The fabric samples shown I was considering, but neither colors really complimented the overall look I have planned! )
A burlap table separates the living room from the dining room and holds seasonal vignettes. Excuse the mess, I’ve been working on adding art pieces as they arrive to the gallery wall I’m freshening…
Dining room table also in a state of #%!! I have an Etsy shop and make beads, so this is also my creative space.
And finally, the Williams Sonoma Home sofa we’ve had for several years will stay, but will get a pillow refresh.
Another older pic of some pillows and a shot of the foyer book cabinet when it was painted an aged aqua:
My One Room Challenge will basically be a refresh of new paint on interior doors, fabric/pillow update, and new artwork for the living room and dining room gallery wall. Just realized I forgot a “before” of the gallery wall I’m changing up a little! This is an older picture, but I am changing some of the art to give it a bit more of a traditional with modern mix.
And another before pic I found of the wall:
Here is an idea of the overall look I have in mind for this space:
I look forward to being a part of the One Room Challenge Guest Participants and seeing lots of inspiration from other design bloggers! Also follow along with the 20 ORC Fall 2016 bloggers for lots of inspiration as they design their spaces! Thanks for joining me and cheering us all on as we finish our spaces & please visit next Thursday for Week 2’s progress.
xoxo

October 16, 2016 at 12:58 amIf you can’t relocate your light switch, I suggest you paint it the same color as your wall. Reposition your picture to the perfect spot…even if it covers a little bit of your licht switch. I have often painted and even wallpapered my light plates to make them disappear on the wall. It works.

October 17, 2016 at 9:25 pmHi, Joy! I love that trick, as well! Did that to the thermostat in the Master bedroom for a gallery wall and will probably do that to this space, as well. Thanks for visiting my blog! I checked out your specialty carpet and love all the patterns you carry. I’m trying to persuade our pediatrician ( yes, she’s STILL our Dr after all these years for the boys…lol! ) and as I was looking at your website, I think I came up with a whole office redesign! I will be asking you for more info on that… 😉
