Welcome to The Painted Chandelier blog!
I’m Melanie and here’s a little bit about me…….
I graduated from college with a degree in Elementary Education and taught for about 8 years, including substituting and teaching Pre-K. My FIRST major in college was Interior Design, to which my Dad said he thought I should go into a field where I could always find a job, and because my Mom was a teacher, I guess they thought that would be an appropriate field for me, as well.
I did love Summers off children, and I loved the camaraderie of teaching; however, I’ve always been a “free spirit” and the creative type, and the idea of being in a classroom for 8+ hours a day didn’t really appeal to me. My heart just wasn’t in it 100%……
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

In my years of being a stay-at-home-Mom, my teaching certification had expired, and because my heart was not in it, (and it felt like w-o-r-k…) I felt this was the perfect opportunity for me to go back and study what I’ve been most passionate about for so many years of my life: Interior Decorating. I got my Certified Interior Decorator degree, and in 2010, I started Interiors by Melanie Robinson, an Interior Decorating business specializing in residential design, painted furniture, chandeliers, etc. l I love the freedom and creativity this profession offers, and am happy I made a career change.Yes, I still work, but it doesn’t feel like w-o-r-k (that four letter word!!), it feels like an extension of my hobby, and I love it every day!
I never worked a day in my life. It’s not work when you love what you’re doing.

I’d like to encourage women to follow their dream, and do what they’re passionate about in their life….the things we’re drawn to are usually our God-given gifts, I’ve found. If you love it and are drawn to it, just do it…make that career change, pursue that degree, start that business! Age doesn’t matter….just take that first step!
The Painted Chandelier is my place to share my projects, beautiful inspirations, before and afters, a little about my family, 2 German Shorthaired Pointers, and other ramblings.
Most importantly, I have been a stay-at-home Mom for the past 23 years, and have 3 amazing sons ages 22,18, and 17. I have loved staying home all these years with my boys, although I can’t believe how fast the years have gone by! Also, I have been married to my great guy for 25 years, and am very appreciative that he allows me room to be creative and has been so supportive of my craft. The poor man never knows what project I’m going to come up with next, but he supports and helps me. (He’s actually very talented in drawing and designing things, as well, but his day job is being a full time Environmental Health & Safety Engineer.) We joke and say he’s my Chico! (HGTV’S Candice Olson reference) 🙂
Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you will find some inspiration, motivation, or encouragement from my blog today!
