I recently had the opportunity to review an amazing product called Driftwood Weathered Wood Finish. Kim at DIY Driftwood emailed me with details about using the product. It comes in a packet as a powder that you mix with water and apply to bare, unfinished or stripped and sanded wood and it will produce a weathered driftwood appearance within 15 minutes. I had the perfect table in which to test this product!
A few years ago, I found this square table with curvy legs at the end of a day at a yard sale. You know how much people want to get rid of stuff by this point, right?! I snatched it up for under $30 and took it home to put on my side porch.
Here is how it looked when I bought it, and it has stayed this way for 2 years…..
It was still weathered, but it sort of lacked definition and didn’t do anything really interesting for the porch. That’s when I thought that the DIY Driftwood Weathered Wood product would be great on this unfinished table!
Here is how it came- in a packet with 2 powders. I used 1 packet on my table, but had extra that I could have used on another small item.
It turns a purple color when mixed with water…..
I used 1 packet on this table- the top, sides, legs, etc. and I had a little extra which I used and continued painting the product on until it was gone.
“It is not a stain, but a product that reacts to the tannins in the wood to produce bluish/gray tones, and therefore reacts a little differently to each wood depending on the amount of tannins in the wood.” – Kim at DIY Driftwood
I have a large clamshell that I got at Ballards outlet a few years ago, and I change it seasonally. Last Summer, I had a Fairy Garden in it, at Christmas I had decorative silver and gold balls, and this Spring/Summer, I decided succulents would look great and be easy!
I think the porch table turned out lovely! I love that the driftwood product gave this little wallflower of a girl a more distinctive look! I plan on painting my brown chairs more of a grayish brown, since we painted our deck this Spring ( oops, just realized I haven’t written that post yet, but I will share that amazing product with you when I do, as well! )
Do you have a perfect unfinished piece of furniture or one that you could sand and use this wonderful product on? Head on over to DIY Driftwood and check out their products! Also sold on Amazon! I just found out that my friends at DIY Driftwood are going to be at Haven Conference 2014 !! Yay!
Things are winding down around the Robinson household with the school year coming to an end! My firstborn graduates in exactly 1 week from today! Of course I’m a proud Momma, but it’s also a very bittersweet and emotional time for me. I know good things are in store for him though, and I can’t wait to see all that God will do in him and through his life!
Have a wonderful Wednesday, my sweet friends!! As always, thank you SO much for stopping by!! xo
Please come back and visit next time for my Spring porch makeover!! Coming soon! 🙂

May 21, 2014 at 9:17 pmWhat beautiful legs! I love your table! What a fun product to use on it! I wonder if you can seal it with a little Annie Sloan clear wax to give it that old smooth french look… hmmmm.
On another note, are you attending Haven? I am on a waiting list for a ticket with the gentle prodding of Jennifer at DimplesandTangles blog. My BFF lives in Dunwoody too, so it will be fun to see her as well. I hope you are going so we can connect!!
xoxo,
Emily

May 21, 2014 at 9:23 pmYour table really turned out great Melanie. I may have to give that a try on my porch swing. I was going to paint it white but I really like the way your table turned out. Kathy

May 29, 2014 at 2:45 pmHi, Lisa! Thank you so much for the well wishes for my son- a bittersweet time, but also an exciting one! Yes, it happens all too quickly and they’re grown, aren’t they?
Thanks on the table, too! I really am a driftwood fan, but who knew it could be so easy? They are coming out with new finishes and waxes soon!
Appreciate you stopping by, friend! 🙂

July 13, 2014 at 5:25 pmI just got done applying my driftwood and had to do two coats because rain drops got on it. It’s been about 30 min and I’m happy with the color! Do I have to wait a full 24 hours to apply the weathered wax?
mimirobins says
July 17, 2014 at 11:13 pmHi, Shellie! Will the piece you applied the Driftwood product be under a covered area or exposed to the elements? I did not use the weathered wax product because the company only sent me the powder that you add to water to review. I think you could go to the link in my blogpost and send an email to Kim at diydriftwood.com and inquire about the wax? My table is holding up extremely well under our covered porch. If I drop water on it while watering plants, the water just beads up, but doesn’t stain the table finish. I hope your piece turned out great, too!

September 29, 2015 at 6:40 pmI love the finished table! I’ve just decided to try this with my coffee table. It’s in need of refinishing and I wasn’t sure how I wanted it to look. Now I know!
