Nail Family Master Bedroom Makeover
Hope y’all are having a great week, so far….I know, it’s only Tuesday, but this is my kids’ last week of school, so that makes it a happier-than-usual Tuesday! AH, Summer days…..sleeping a little later, relaxed days at the pool, vacation, grilling, fresh fruit & veggies, the sweet Summer smell of Coppertone….Life is just better in the Summer; a chance for families and friends to spend more time together without the rush of our usual daily routines.
I’ve been working on a Master bedroom for a client, and I finally finished it this past weekend ( with the help of Chico, my trusty assistant, that is:) )
I’m ready to share the before and after photos with you today, so I hope you enjoy!
Our inspiration palette
The color palette for this bedroom started with a soft aqua matelasse sham and comforter. After that was decided as our starting point, I decided to add a burlap ruffled bedskirt for texture, along with a velvet buckwheat tufted headboard. Faux button tufted fabric made into throw pillows with complimentary fringe trim, cream linen curtains, and the Chinoiserie bolster and throw pillows completed the color scheme. I kept the accessories soft, as well, with cream peonies with apple green moss, seashells, a bronze picture frame, and a nice Seda France candle, Japanese Quince. My client and her husband are a busy, young couple with one baby, so I wanted to give them a retreat to come home to at the end of their busy days.
The Goal
Before
The goal was to move the King bed opposite the entry of the room to create a focal point. I would then create a peaceful feeling in the room by using soothing colors, add an upholstered headboard for comfort while reading or watching tv, soften the windows with simple, yet elegant window panels, and add bedside tables and lamps that were better suited for reading. I also wanted to add an interesting mirror over the headboard. We called this stage Phase 1 of the project, in case my client might want to change the furniture or add a rug to the room in the future. Staying on budget meant we would keep the sofa and dressers they already had for the time being.
After
Different bedside tables with matching lamps can work if the scale is the same
I love the soft colors and the textures in this space. I think everything came together really nicely, and my client was happy when I surprised her! One thing that was tops on her list was to have materials that were easy to clean with babies and dogs in the house! Mission accomplished. Everything is machine-washable for the most part, give or take the throw pillows, which can easily be spot cleaned.
