Happy Halloween, Friends!! Are you ready for All Hallow’s Eve tonight? Are you ready for the cute little kids….or maybe the scary big ones…you know, the ones that are really too old to be Trick or Treating because they are bigger than you are?! lol We are loaded up on candy, because our neighborhood is one of the larger ones out where we live, so everyone brings their kids to our neighborhood. I threatened to give out pretzels this year…yeah, nothing screams “Don’t go to THAT house,” like pretzels do!! haha I do, however, still give candy to the older teens that take the time to be creative and dress up. I love seeing their creativity, and I have seen some incredible costumes! I seriously hope Miley Cyrus and her famous foam finger don’t come to my door~but you know it’s inevitable. 🙂

Before I show you my last ditch effort to accessorize my front porch for Halloween, let me tell you a little about what we did last weekend. First, I have to show you my oldest son’s costume last Saturday night for a party. Are you ready? Ok…but it’s scary….

He went as Darth Maul, from Star Wars. He did his own makeup, and even attached the horns with Spirit Gum. Although I don’t love scary costumes, I thought he did an amazing job! He has learned so much from being in Theatre in High School. Pretty neat to see his talent.

Ok, now back to what I wanted to tell y’all. Last weekend, my husband and I went to Stone Mountain, Georgia to The Country Living Fair. It was amazing! I’m so fortunate to belong to a wonderful group of talented women here in Atlanta,The Atlanta Area Home/DIY Bloggers, and they went on Saturday. Since I wasn’t able to meet them on Saturday, we went on Sunday. Next year, I hope to be able to meet with the group. They got to meet the lovely Sarah Gray, editor of Country Living magazine. Cool, huh? It was such a perfect day for the fair. I found a spoon necklace that says,” Let the Sea Set You Free,” that I love. So many one of a kind items by artisans locally, and throughout the region.

We also saw a heartwarming movie starring Julia Louis Dreyfus and the late James Gandolfini called, “Enough Said.” Mark & I both loved it. Funny, yet moving. Love when a movie makes you feel good~

So yesterday rolls around, and I’m thinking how I have no carving pumpkins, or any of my Halloween decor out this year. I decorated for Fall, but hmmm, what happened to Halloween? One thing is my kids are now older. Every year when they were in Elementary school, they started asking me to get out the Fall and Halloween decorations in September. This year nobody asked! And I forgot….or did I?! I looked at my Pinterest Seasonal/Fall board, and saw some Martha Stewart bats on a porch. That looked cute and easy enough.

I went and found some carving pumpkins. It wasn’t easy either. I had to go to 3 places before finding some that were large enough. Note to self: don’t be a last minuter. Even Blue was standing looking at the pumpkins in sheer and utter disbelief…Why is nobody carving these pumpkins?

I printed out the half bat template, then taped it together. I used black posterboard to trace the half bat template all over, then glued the halves together. Bending the middle of the wings and body gives it a little more of a realistic look. It was alot of cutting, but other than that, I’d say for under $5.00 they turned out pretty cute!I made a small hole with an ice pick, and knotted fishing line through, and secured each bat to the porch ceiling with a clear thumbtack. My middle and youngest sons saved the day and carved the pumpkins last night, and did a great job! Finally, it all came together. Whew~
