Hello there, Friends!! Soooo sorry about the long break- I’ve been in the process of having my blog moved over, and a new blog designed. Janel, worked with me to combine my branding and designed a brand new blog for me and I could not be happier!! Katie, moved me from Blogger and helped finalize all my technical stuff! So happy to be settling in here on WordPress! So where were we last when I dropped off the planet for a month? Oh, that’s right…. y’all were hanging on for the Part 2 of the coral & gold tv console gallery wall. ( again, sorry for the long wait! )
Here is the wall “before,” with just a few sconces and a clock. Honestly, I think I did this 11 years ago when we moved into this house and never gave it a second thought because there were more important things to tend to…. like raising little boys and puppies!! You understand, right?!
Just a plain & boring wall. ( SNORE! ) I decided I would keep the existing wall sconces, and add some interest around them to balance out the tv console. I found some framed art around my house that I wasn’t using, and decided to make some of those pieces work in this gallery wall. I really do try to shop my house for things that could be updated or changed first before going shopping for additional items. Not only does that save money, but I think it adds more interest, as well! After deciding what I’d use and not use, I found a few things at antique shops , Target, & Hobby Lobby.
Target sunburst mirrors
I saw this set of 3 sunburst mirrors and thought they would add interest scattered along the wall with the artwork. I wasn’t crazy about the color, so I taped them, then spray painted them gold. They still lacked a brilliant gold, so I used Rub ‘n Buff in Antique Gold over the top.
Blue & white porcelain from Hobby Lobby
I painted the thermostat monitor so that it blended better, too.
After I hung all the artwork and mirrors, there was something still off with the scale, so I brought these bamboo chairs up from the basement ( which we are currently finishing ) and placed them on either side of the console to see what they looked like. I loved it! But I didn’t love the color, so I posted a pic of some apple green spray paint and asked my amazing Instagram friends if they liked the idea of paint or stain for these chairs. Some said a darker stain and others said paint. A few people said high gloss paint and I have seen rooms with that high gloss sheen on bamboo, and it does indeed look beautiful. I bought some stain and tried that in an inconspicuous place, but the wood was so brittle that the stain wouldn’t adhere. Sanding seemed like a pain with all the crevices, so I tried the high gloss green and it looked fresh & fabulous!
I found this faux cowhide at a local fabric store and kept playing with the idea of making some pillows for the green bamboo chairs. I thought it would add some interest and I decided to use coral and green ball trim to tie the colors in the room together.
Another project I wanted to complete for our Master bedroom was reupholstering this French armchair. Here is the fabric it was covered in when I bought it at a yard sale ( I will do a separate post on that whole process ) I really love how it turned out, but it was a process that tested every ounce of me! There was a lot of blood, sweat, & tears along the way, so to speak. ( Ok, literally there was sweat & cursing and the thought that I would never do DIY again, but as usual, once it was done I was estatic and knew I probably was just overworked and needed sleep! You have projects like that, too?! )
I made a few mistakes along the way, so I will share all that in a separate post so that if you want to try a reupholstery/painting project like this, you won’t have to make the same mistakes! It’s all just a part of the learning process, right? I think reading blogs and searching Pinterest are great ways to gain insight prior to starting projects. And even though this ain’t my first rodeo, there were definitely things I could have done different and better!
A few more shots around our Master bedroom. I made a few pillows for the bed last Spring in the pink/brown/green family, so I used some of those again.
I still need to figure out what to do with the side tables that we’ve had since we moved in to our house 11 years ago, too. They are great for storage and are very solid. We got them free all those years ago because the marble tops were broken, so I had glass cut to replace the top, and have always added coordinating fabric under it. It’s a fun way to add another pattern to the mix. It has worked fine, but I’d like to change them to better suit the room.
Thanks for stopping by! I will be doing a Part 3 next for the gold & green leopard French armchairs! And this time it won’t take a month. I hope to start posting regularly now that my new blog is complete! I would love for you to follow me on Facebook,Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, and sign up for emails so the posts will come right to your inbox. I LOVE to hear your questions, kind thoughts, comments, and suggestions, too!!
Have a great Friday eve, y’all!!

April 18, 2014 at 12:09 pmThanks,Kelli!! I love color, but our Master had been mostly neutral with color brought in through the pillows. It’s like once I painted that coral dresser, I couldn’t stop! Lol Thanks for stopping by! Can’t wait for the thrifting trip! xo

April 27, 2014 at 1:39 pmHi, Anty! I have tried in the past few years to keep most of my furnishings neutral, and change my accents. I’ve also tried completely neutral, but color always creeps back in! I find it necessary for my happiness!! 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting!
