Hello, Friends, and a Happy Wednesday to y’all! I’m on autopilot right now due to the fact that my youngest son and I got up early this morning so he could go on the annual 8th grade trip to Savannah! Early like 5 AM, which I’m pretty sure is regular getting up time for some, just not this girl. Anyhoo, he’s on his way for 3 days of sightseeing some of Savannah’s interesting historic sites, and he was very excited the charter bus had electrical outlets so he could charge his iPhone!! Kids!! ( ok, we ladies looked for outlets on our big thrifting charter bus trip Saturday, too, so we could charge our phones…we’re all hopelessly addicted to our technology, aren’t we?! ) Graduation invitations went out today for our oldest son, who will be graduating high school in a few short weeks. Chhchhchhchanges!!! 🙁 Lots of new seasons of life happening all around…..
I went recently with another blogger friend, Kim, at A Quirky Creative, to Palazzo Rosa, the Atlanta Symphony Decorators’ Show House & Gardens in Buckhead. Those of you who follow me on Instagram already saw a few fabulous shots of the house last week. I look forward to the gorgeous Show Homes in Atlanta every year, and this was definitely another spectacular one!
Palazzo Rosa was built in 1926 by the architectural firm, Hentz, Reid, and Adler-later Hentz, Adler, and Shutze. The home was built for the Rhodes family and is referred to locally as “The Pink Palace,” because of the color of the original stucco and pink dogwoods that lined the driveway.(although it is no longer pink! ) This home was designed in the Italian Baroque style, and the architectural details are those true of that style and period. Details for days! I was so intrigued looking at all the architectural features in this almost 100 year old home -just amazing! So much character that you just don’t find in today’s homes, unless specifically requested in custom built homes and even then, there’s just something different about homes from that time period that can’t be duplicated. Sure, we have amazing technology and man made materials, but this was pure Italian Baroque style.
I will try to be brief with my words in this post, allowing you to soak in all the beauty of the room designs and details. I hope you enjoy!
Exterior
Loved this view and that archway!
Gorgeous details start on the exterior and are found all throughout this lovely house~
Grand Salon
by Barbara Westbrook, Westbrook Interiors
The wallcovering is a hand-painted linen mural~ So elegant and beautiful.
Solarium
by Robert Brown, Robert Brown Interior Design
Love this custom paint color on the walls made to match the sofa. Such an elegant space! The thick wood molding around the doors and windows throughout the whole house were out of this world amazing!
Carriage Entry & Hall
by Randy Korando and Dan Belman, Boxwood Gardens & Gifts
This grouping of beautiful gold framed leaves have such an impact in this hallway.
Study
by Stan Topol, with Michelle Norton and Sarah Jane Bonn, Stan Topol & Associates
I really loved the way this room “felt.” Maybe it’s because we are currently finishing our basement for our teenage sons and I’m looking for colors that are cozy, rich, & masculine. What about the wonderful framed horse print? Do you love it? I also loved the way the creamy white sectional sofa looks against the wallpaper with the pretty pillows. Good inspiration, but creamy white in a teen boys’ basement space is um, not happening. Nice thought while it lasted…..
Morning Room
by John Oetgen, Oetgen Design, Inc.
Powder Room
by James T. Farmer III, James Farmer Designs
I have really loved all of James Farmers’ rooms I’ve seen in Atlanta Show Homes. His style is Southern & clean with great details and natural elements. This powder room had a gallery wall of landscape prints and paintings to the right of the sink in gold frames. The blue and white buffalo check fabric with trim and ikat wallcovering are perfection in my book.
Upper Hallway
by Michel Smith Boyd, Smithboyd Interiors
Loved the upstairs hall rug and lighting by Circa~ How about those luscious silk walls?! ( They are faux silk wallcovering and even more beautiful in person)
Guest Terrace Retreat
by Janice Palmer, Palmer Design Group
Boxwoods in pale aqua urns grouped in larger numbers for impact. Great idea~
Guest Retreat Bath & Dressing Room
by Bryan Alan Kirkland with Michael Grant Jones, Bryan Alan Kirkland Designs
I thought this space was spectacular! I want to say this is a spin on Pantone’s Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid. How I love it combined with the burnt orange and lots of white. The floral curtains are really pretty with the paint color, which is Benjamin Moore Fashion Rose. Not a color I would typically gravitate towards, but I love it in this space. The ornate white mirror is a great focal point in this dressing area, and it mimics the architecture of the house, doesn’t it? Designer genius.
Master Bath & Dressing Room
by Clay Snider, Clay Snider Interiors, LLC & Design Galleria Kitchen and Bath Studio
Lots of beautiful marble, soft draperies, and sparkly chandeliers and lighting. The botanicals in giant clamshells were another favorite detail of mine in this Master bath.
Grand Staircase
by Kellie Griffin Donnelly, Kellie Griffin Interiors, Inc.
Master Bedroom
by Traci Rhoads, with Leah Kessler, Traci Rhoads Interiors, LLC
Breakfast Room
by Maria McLaurin Nutt and Clay McLaurin, McLaurin Interiors
The kitchen counters were so interesting and amazing looking. The designer called it leathered onyx, or quartzine. It’s a process that makes the stone have this appearance and it was sensational. The soft gray cabinets and variations of brass toned hardware in this space were stunning. On the end of the island at the bottom is a dog feeding and watering station built into the cabinetry. Design genius again. The Circa lantern is simple and good looking.
Loggia Terrace & Gardens
by Ed Castro and Hannah Seaton, Ed Castro Landscape
If I had seen this space first, I may have parked it in one of these Frontgate chairs and not moved…..
Loggia Living- Kitchen & Baths
by Michael Habachy, Habachy Designs
Interesting glass globe chandelier~ really loved the grass cloth wallcovering in this loggia space, too.
There are many other rooms I didn’t get good photos of, but Rhoda at Southern Hospitality, Sherry at Design Indulgence, and Kathy at Southern Style Southern Charm have some more beautiful pics of this Show House on their blogs if you’re not in the local Atlanta or surrounding area. But for those of y’all who are local, The Atlanta Symphony Decorators’ Show House & Gardens is going on now through May 18th. I highly recommend going! After touring the home, Kim and I had lunch at the onsite cafe’ by Carole Parks Catering. Kim had the Chicken Paillard Salad, and I had the Southern Pecan Chicken Salad sandwich, and we split a slice of New Orleans praline cake ( So Southern and so good!) It was a beautiful Spring day and a fun one!
I love getting inspiration from these Show Houses and trying a few new things in my own spaces at home. One thing I always love in the Spring show homes is that they bring in fresh branches and flowers ( or flowering branches! ) to the rooms. It’s really so simple, yet yields big design appeal and gives the space that finishing touch. Another simple, yet beautiful idea I saw was large bowls on the terraces of all clementines, all limes, or all lemons. Just adding a single element of one color in mass can add such impact. I also pay close attention to the beautiful trim and piping on curtains, pillows, and cushions. It makes such a difference in the overall look of the room and takes an ordinary panel or pillow into an extraordinary one. I love that type of thing, and these things are really pretty easy to do in our own homes, right?! But please go see for yourself…you’ll love that you did 🙂
Well, my little gems, I gotta run! Lots to do and not enough hours to do it all! Have a great Wednesday and rest of your week! I’ll be sharing about our big thrifting adventure on a charter bus in Atlanta for Dwell with Dignity in an upcoming post, as well as my Spring porch makeover.
Til then! 🙂
