Hi, Friends! Thanks for joining me today for Part 2 of my Fall Tour. Today, I’m sharing a few different Fall Table Settings with you. Those of you that follow me on Instagram, are aware of the fact that after 20-something years, I am not a lover of cooking anymore. ( occasionally I post food pics, but they are usually super easy & don’t require much prep! ) Not sure if I ever really was, but because I was raised by a quintessential Southern Belle Mom who loved to cook and was excellent at it, I learned how to cook for my family early on, but it’s just not something I’m passionate about like I am decorating or gardening. That being said, I do love setting a pretty table for friends & family ( someone else can bring the food ) 😉
Some of you may remember this post about making multiple table settings from 1 tablecloth & the same base dishes by changing the centerpieces and accent pieces. For one of the Fall Dining Table Settings, I used the pumpkins & dried honeysuckle vines from that post ( also pictured on the Fall House Tour- Part 1 – The Porch post ) as one option. As mentioned previously, this isn’t a practical dining table setting, but more of a decorative look. When I put the 2 elements together, I just loved them so much, and wanted to see them with the new plaid Pottery Barn runner I had gotten recently. I added 2 wooden deer heads ( that I found at Ross while shopping for college stuff with my oldest a few months ago) at either end of the table, some bowls of gold acorns ( that I found last year at the end of the season at Pier 1) a silver tray, and some dried hydrangeas from the yard. I layered my Mikasa English Countryside everyday dishes under the pumpkins & vines, and used some green glasses I already had. ( the dining room walls are painted in Mocha Brown by Duron-color matched in Behr Premium Plus Ultra in an Interior Matte finish )
For the next table setting, I used some blue & white bowls I found at HomeGoods to go with the Lenox Federal Cobalt china plates I’ve had for years. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve never used those plates in almost 22 years of marriage. I tried to go halfsies and compromise with my husband when we registered for our china when we were engaged, but was never personally a blue lover. ( I talked about how I came around and started liking blue here ) So he got the blue, white, and gold plates that looked pretty masculine, and I compromised with some Royal Doulton Flora Dora Gold floral & gold salad plates as an accent. ( for the record, I would never do that again…choosing white or cream with a simple gold rim would be my choice if I had to choose again. That’s what my parents did and it always looks simple, classic, and elegant! )
I added some majolica cream & sugar serving pieces, lightly sprayed pinecones in gold, & a pair of antlers to the table for the blue & white table setting. In some pictures, I tried the place settings with no placemats, and I added them in for some of the other shots. I think I liked the table better with the wooden placemats because it kept the Lenox china plates from being too stuffy and formal and added another layer of texture ( we are not formal people with our 3-teen-boy-and-2-dog-household 😉 ) Layering the plates with some of my Mikasa English Countryside everyday plates and some Italian lettuce plates also helped keep things casual.
Finally, in the kitchen I tried the pumpkins & vines ( again! ) on the black table with the crewel Fall table runner and dough bowl with pumpkins and grapevine balls. I replaced the chairs on one side of the table with the thrift store bench I slipcovered here for a different look. We ‘re using it in the family room as an ottoman, but the rooms are adjoining, so this would be simple to switch out for company or special occasions. (Click here for the tutorial on the slipcovered bench )
I created these tables using what I already had and just adding a few new things ( blue & white HomeGoods bowls, Pottery Barn plaid table runner, & a $5.00 thrift store bench that I probably spent $30 on in fabric ). I usually add a few new seasonal things each year to update our home, but ultimately I love the challenge of shopping my own home, repurposing an item, or bringing in natural elements from the yard or garden. I find that a collected home is much more interesting and less “designed” looking…. that’s just my own personal opinion.
Thursday I will be teaming up with 5 other bloggers sharing our Fall Tours. I will be featuring the final part of my Fall Home Tour- Part 3- Fall Accents Around the House. Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you have a great week!
xoxo
