There’s finally a nip and crispness in the North Georgia air! Playing with table settings and the different color combinations found in nature and textiles is one of my favorite ways to express my creativity. My oldest son works at the Williams-Sonoma outlet now and let’s just say it’s every bit as tempting as it sounds! They have some beautiful dinnerware, tablecloths, and napkins and I walk around the store creating table settings in my head constantly.
I find that some of my favorite fruits, flowers, and plants to decorate with are at their best in late Summer, early Fall. Things like hydrangeas, ferns, figs, persimmons, dried honeysuckle vines, and beauty berries just to name a few. I love natural elements in a table setting! I found some artichoke plates at Williams-Sonoma this Summer on clearance and thought they would make a pretty Fall table setting combined with some natural items found around the garden. Today I’m sharing 2 Fall inspired table settings on our side porch, starting with the artichoke plates. ( to see more of my table settings, click here. )
Artichoke Plates with Ferns and Figs
I started with a burlap runner and linen napkins folded lengthwise under each dinner and salad plate, then added a centerpiece of 3 varieties of ferns from around our yard. I have no idea what each is called except for the Rabbit Foot fern, which lasted the longest in the bulb jars and water ( almost 2 weeks! ) For whatever reason, the other ferns didn’t do well except for a few days before getting brown edges and wilting. I also added some privet berries and unripe figs to the centerpiece, as well as some honeysuckle vine for added interest and detail.
I found the bamboo flatware on Ebay last Spring and have really enjoyed having these pieces for a casual dinner feel. They add such great visual texture, don’t they?
The seat cushions are covered in a Robert Allen outdoor fabric that has held up very well to our hot Georgia Summers!
We have a family of 5, but obviously this little round iron table only seats 4, so if we have guests over or the boys have friends for dinner, we have different areas for eating around the porch and back deck with a side table nearby. When I think of all my tall guys and their friends sitting in these little iron chairs, it sort of makes me laugh- I think we need to go with a larger farmhouse style table next Summer so we can have more people around the table! ( and larger chairs! )
The next table setting was inspired by this palette and my new Spode Woodlands salad plates.
The beauty berries are always vibrant & beautiful in late August in our garden and the figs are getting ripe. ( adore the color of figs, too ) I combined the fruit and berries with some paisley napkins I found at, where else, Williams-Sonoma ( hey, just being loyal! Lol ) and loved the colors together! I didn’t know at the time this would be my color palette with my new Spode dishes until I got out last year’s plaid Pottery Barn runner and saw it was a great color/pattern combination.
Hydrangeas and Beauty Berries with Spode Woodlands Salad Plates
I have been on a fushcia/purple kick lately, and wanted to combine those colors with the browns in the Woodlands dinnerware. I used my plaid runner as mentioned above with the paisley napkins and added grapevine wreaths as chargers – similar to last year’s honeysuckle vine “chargers” here and here, but less messy! Then I added my Mikasa English Countryside dinner plates on top of the chargers, alternating green and cream Italian Ceramica plates with Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage plates before adding the Woodlands salad plates. I used the bamboo flatware and green goblets again for this setting.
The centerpiece and other natural elements were added and I chose Peegee hydrangeas, Beauty Berries, Rabbit Foot ferns, and Privet green berries to compliment the place settings in a subtle, yet colorful way. The greens and purples compliment the browns and natural colors in the plates while still keeping it natural and rustic looking.
Antlers, pinecones, and fresh figs complete the rustic setting. The Spode Woodland dinnerware is so beautiful! I have wanted to collect them for a long time and love how they mix so well with my Mikasa English Countryside dishes.
English Springer Spaniel
Majestic Moose
Mule Deer
Pheasants
Quails
Rabbit
Flatcoat Pointers
Wood Duck
I also have the Golden Retrievers and have ordered a Red Grouse salad plate, too. (really wish they had a Weimaraner!) Each plate is a beautiful work of art and I love having them for Fall and Winter.
As for the rest of my Fall decor….haven’t even gotten to it yet! I’ve been busy working with several clients and things have been busy with our sons and other life events lately. I did buy some mums, a few pillows, and a throw for the porch last week and hope to get started on that this week 🙂
Thanks for reading today, I hope you were inspired by some of the table settings! I would love to decorate a table or dining room for you with the upcoming holidays ahead. My contact info is: mimirobinso@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful week!

December 22, 2015 at 2:56 amYou’re so kind- thank you, Jamala! It was the key item that sold us on our house. Thankfully, we can use it almost 9 months of the year here in the South! xo
