Hi, Friends!
I thought I was going to do better about writing a few more posts regularly, but that plan isn’t proving to work too well in my current season of life! Caring for my Dad and his Dr. appointments and errands, helping our college sons with various needs at this stage in their lives, attending to the needs of our own home, dogs, etc. Who said Empty Nest was easier?! 😅
Today, I’m sharing 5 more things I’m loving currently. Disclosure: A few from Amazon are affiliate links, which means if you buy from my post, I might receive a small commission. Others I’m sharing just because I think you might enjoy them, too.
Is there anything that transforms an outdoor space and adds instant ambiance more than string lights? We added a few of these Amazon strands to our existing string lights from Home Depot that are probably 3-4 years old. The quality of the ones from Amazon are very good! Maybe better than the ones from Home Depot and definitely a better deal because you get 2 strands of about 15 lights.
I love turning them on right before dusk and sitting on the swings each night after dinner. We also bought this T-shaped adapter to join the old string lights to the new up under the upper back deck so they’re hidden and out of the way.
2. Lumify Redness Reliever Eye Drops– I found this as a sample at my eye Dr. appointment a few months ago and let me just say: GAME CHANGER! Especially if you get red eyes from allergies or just from lack of sleep (hello, Menopause!) I wear contacts so the directions say to apply a drop to each eye and wait 10 minutes before putting your contacts in. The drops work in minutes and your eyes look so bright and clear afterwards for up to 8 hours. I really love this product!
3. Old Movies– Given the state of our Country and World right now, I had to stop watching the news and look for a happy diversion. I love movies from the 60’s & 70’s; they take me back to a happier, more carefree day and time. I prefer the ones in color, but there are some great old movies in black & white, too. I’m sure Mark loves watching movies when I’m constantly rewinding and pausing to study the set designs, fashion, and scenery! It was so good back then though.. truly an age of fine things and glamour.
Here are a few of my favorites we’ve watched lately (most we’ve watched with our Amazon Prime membership or purchased through Prime):
4. YZXDORWJ Women’s Casual Skirt Boho Mexican Peasant Dress-this dress is really so pretty in real life! The olive green color looked great with my turquoise and silver jewelry this Summer, and will also go nicely into Fall. I wore this on my birthday trip but after seeing a pic of how short it was on me 😳, I added a pair of black Capri leggings and my gold Gizeh Birkenstock’s, which I’m also loving this Summer. I’m 5’9”, so at my age it’s a bit too short on me as a dress, but is longer than all my other Mexican embroidered tops. I washed it on delicate/cold and hung it to dry. It runs TTS. Another surprisingly good Amazon clothing find!
5. Chick-fil-A Lemon Kale Salad-
Did you try CFA’s delicious new grilled chicken salad with lemon and kale this Summer? It comes with Lemon Parmesan Panko and a Lemon Caesar Vinaigrette. Sadly, it’s seasonal only but it was a nice low carb/low calorie, healthier option this Summer while we were traveling to the beach ( y’know, to balance out the fried shrimp & hushpuppies 😉) My sweet Mother would’ve loved it. Every time I go and see the Frosted Lemonade on the menu, I remember how much she loved those and the lemon meringue pie they used to serve. 🍋 I miss her so much and all the fun times we had together….
One extra favorite because it’s too pretty not to share! A few Summers ago, I ordered another David Austin Rose from the Antique Antique Rose Emporium outside of Brenham, Texas. (My sweet Mother bought my first antique rose here on one of their Texas trips to see my Dad’s family) Lady of Shalott has been the best rose! It’s an English shrub Rose that’s a repeat bloomer in shades of peach/apricot. I grew it in a container because it’s on the more compact side. I need to find a good trellis because it has gotten a bit leggy over the Summer, but it’s just a beautiful Rose that works overtime! I’ve really enjoyed clipping bouquets to bring into our house, but as most David Austin roses, the ruffly blooms aren’t too long lasting. Nonetheless, it’s become one of my favorite roses due to all the blooms and has proven to be disease free thus far. I did hand pick and remove some Japanese beetles during June/July, sprayed the rose, and also fertilized it every 3-4 weeks with a liquid rose fertilizer for constant blooms. Check it out if you’re a rose lover!
I hope you enjoyed my 5 Friday Favorites (plus one) today! I wanted to share a few of those while it was still warm, outdoor weather. I cannot believe we are in mid-September already! I’m a Summer girl and am always sad to see the season end, but Fall is also a beautiful time in North Georgia, so I look forward to that, as well.
Thank you for reading today. Hope y’all have a good weekend! 💚
